A 30 km hike along the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, with endless beautiful scenery and ever-present wildlife.

huge fallen trees turned into stairs, making the hike a bit easier we were happy to see some grand old trees still standing here, while most of Vancouver Island has been severely logged there were endless amazing views, forcing us to sit down, admire and look for marine wildlife At beautiful Chin Creek we were pretty worn out, so we took a long break and Rob even took a dip (more or less, I can still hear his screams of pain) Had to walk over a few suspension bridges where it was simply too steep and the rivers were too wide The last day at Sombrio Beach, too thirsty to do much at all, we collected rainwater from the tarp with a taste of smoke from the fires around.  Our last stop, at Botany Bay by Botanical Beach.

A full day at the Vancouver aquarium filled us with admiration of these beautiful animals and sadness over their lack of space… As usual for me at a zoo, unfortunately.

there are dophins, of course... ...as well as Beluga whales. a red-tailed hawk, shot in the leg as a juvenile and habituated to humans. sea otter eating a clam Stellar sea lion showing off its grandiosity (they are HUGE!)
